An Introduction to the New Workflow Designer in OpCon Continuum
6 clips · about 11 minutes
At Continuous, we continuously strive to push the boundaries of workload automation and orchestration for the modern financial services organization.
That’s why we’re excited to introduce the next generation of OpCon: Continuum. Continuum is completely cloud-based, enabling us to deploy new features faster, and empowering users to create custom automations easier, quicker, and smarter than ever before.
Continuum comes equipped with a number of enhanced features, including global search, integrated versioning, consolidated job logs, a universal agent, improved scheduler and single sign on (SSO) capabilities, managed connections, and robust permissions.
In August, we launched our Continuum educational webinar series. The first session focused on the navigation and features of the new Workflow Designer. Read on for the highlights, or jump straight to the clip you care about.

A faster, more intuitive way to build workflows
With Workflow Designer, it’s easier and more intuitive than ever before to set up a new automation workflow. Users begin building a workflow in the Canvas section, and all settings are visible on the right side of the dashboard.
One major enhancement over the prior OpCon Deploy function is that new workflows aren’t automatically released to a live environment until you choose to do so. You simply create a draft workflow that resides in the database and then deploy it when you’re ready.
Users are now able to apply Tags throughout the platform, from the vision dashboards to self-service buttons, to enable easier search of specific jobs and functionalities.
Continuum users will also have the ability to create Custom Fields, which allow you to add required or optional fields to collect additional business-specific data for filtering, reporting, and tracking purposes.
Once a new workflow is saved, it appears in the centralized Canvas section of your dashboard view. From here, you can collapse your Settings view and move around as needed.
By right-clicking on a saved job, you can quickly copy and paste it to duplicate the workflow and then draw dependencies between the two. With the convenient left-hand panel, you can create new jobs and perform many other tasks right within the Canvas.
One of the coolest new features with Continuum’s Workflow Builder is the ability to automatically generate job-specific documentation, for help in search, training, and other applications.
Using the new Code View feature, you can view the underlying JSON code behind a specific job. This offers several benefits, including the ability to quickly search for specific code across all jobs, and even implement global changes, if needed. By having AI analyze the code, it can provide detailed documentation that can then be stored in the “Documentation” section of the Workflow setup.
Take control with new Versioning and Deployment features
Deploy has long been a popular change control feature with OpCon users. It allows designated users to deploy workflows to different environments with controls in place. Now, with Versioning, those same capabilities are fully embedded within Continuum.
Users can make changes to a workflow, save it with comments, and then view the latest update along with earlier versions right within the Canvas dashboard. To deploy the latest version, you simply click the “Manage Deployment” button in the top right corner of the screen, choose your preferred options, and click “Deploy.” Users also have the option to automatically deploy latest versions as they are created.
In Continuum, Frequencies work very similarly to how they did in legacy OpCon. One enhancement is that Frequencies no longer exist within a single job. This means that you can remove or change a Frequency setting within a specific job, without deleting that Frequency option at the global level. Frequencies exist within their own dedicated area, creating more flexibility and convenience for users.
The Frequencies area includes a Forecast option, making it easier to know in advance that a job will work as desired. The calendar view is intuitive for those comfortable with Outlook calendaring.
Continuum will be deployed automatically to all existing OpCon Cloud customers very soon. Existing users of OpCon will not see any loss of functionality, although some less-popular features will be sunset at that time. In all cases, workarounds will be offered to replicate prior capabilities, as needed.
